We had pre booked an early evening trip which President Obama put a stop too, arriving in town and closing the airspace so we had no choice but to take a sunrise flight. Up at 4am we were picked up at the hotel and taken to an airfield 40 minutes away as we couldn't use the local Vegas one. We were quickly loaded into our helicopter and took off with a stomach lurching swoop and headed up into the skies for our flight out of Nevada into Arizona.
The flight is very smooth and the height gives you no sense of speed at all. We looked down on the scrub lands and mountainous terrain for about 45 minutes whilst our pilot filled us in on information.
When we started our descent into the Canyon my breath was really taken away. The landscape really is dramatic and awesome in a burnt red colour. I was actually pleased we had the early morning start as the sun rising over the canyon and casting incredible shadows was very beautiful.
Once landed we had time to take photos and enjoy a little champagne breakfast before heading back the way we came.
I would whole heartedly recommend this trip to anyone it was worth every penny. We chose Papillion tours and would use them again for sure.
I want to go back and see another part of the Canyon next time, maybe staying a few days in one of the campsites.
