I met a friend for a long overdue catch up and lunch date a few weeks back and we both wanted to try the newly opened Fleet Street Kitchen in Birmingham. It's only a few minutes walk from my apartment and another great restaurant to add to the Jewellery Quarter.
The restaurant is light, airy and open plan and feautures a Barbacoa grill, great food menu with fresh daily specials, a terrace over looking the canal and an evening bar downstairs.
I love the fixtures and fittings, we sat in the dining area with marble tables, modern lighting and greenery.
My friend Sandrine chose her main course from the daily menu, line caught cod with sesame noodles and I chose the grazing board with a choice of cured meats, cheeses, fresh cooked bread and nibbles.
Both dishes were delicious, the cured meats and herb butter on the bread especially. The fish was very fresh and tasty and went well with the asian noodles.
For pudding Sandrine chose very well and had a bowl of eton mess - so rich and creamy and I opted for the soft serve ice cream and hot strawberry sauce. My ice cream was maybe a little too soft and slightly melted when it arrived but only a minor point as I emptied my sundae glass!
I can't wait to go back and try the Barbacoa grill next time for dinner and try out the bar downstairs, I've heard good things about the music and cocktails!
